School Structure

As Ordsall Primary School comprises of three distinct blocks, the school has been structured into three Phases:

Phase 1 - Nursery (part-time and full-time) and Reception
Phase 2 - Years 1, 2 and 3
Phase 3 - Years 4, 5 and 6

In Phase 1, our Early Years provision, we are able to offer both full- and part-time places for Nursery children. We have morning/afternoon sessions available as part of our part-time, 52 place Nursery provision, as well as our full-time, 39 place Nursery provision for children and families who are eligible for 30 hours free childcare. Attendance at our Nursery provision does not guarantee a place at the school; however, many families use it to support their children in beginning to attend school and so that they are familiar with how we work.

Each Phase has its own staff team who are supported and led by a Phase Leader. Each Phase Leader is under the direct leadership of one of the school's two Deputy Headteachers. The entire leadership team, consisting of Phase Leaders, Deputy Headteachers and the Headteacher, work closely together to ensure the children's transition between year groups is seamless, and the Phase structure supports the children with transition between Key Stages.

Arriving and Leaving

The school is a very busy place at the beginning and end of the day especially, but at Ordsall Primary School we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. The school has two physical points of entry, one is on West Hill Road and the other is on Ordsall Road. These are the gates that the children and families will use to go to and from the school.

Safety and security are a high priority for us at school, and parents and carers will see staff on the site at drop off and collection times to answer questions, but also to monitor everyone's safety. Once the school day begins, the school site is secured, with access being monitored by the staff and CCTV covering the grounds. Entrance to and from all of our buildings is by an access card and access into the school grounds is only at the gate on Ordsall Road. We use a controlled access system and ask all visitors to sign in using our electronic system. All our staff share this commitment to everyone's safety and are required to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check before they are able to work with us at Ordsall.

School Meals

The school provides meals for children who want one from its own kitchens. The quality of the school's meals was recognised by the Soil Association who awarded the school a gold award.

The children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are all eligible to receive a school meal at no cost under the Universal Infant Free School Meal initiative, as well as children that eligible for benefits-related free school meals. Parents and carers can check if they are eligible for benefits-related free school meals here.
